A QMU approach for characterizing the operability limits of air-breathing hypersonic vehicles

چکیده
The operability limits of a supersonic combustion engine for an air-breathing hypersonic vehicle are characterized using numerical simulations and an uncertainty quantification methodology. The time-dependent compressible flow equations with heat release are solved in a simplified configuration. Verification, calibration and validation are carried out to assess the ability of the model to reproduce the flow/thermal interactions that occur when the engine unstarts due to thermal chocking. Quantification of Margins and Uncertainty (QMU) is used to determine the safe operation region for a range of fuel flow rates and combustor geometries.

Characterizing the operability limits of the HyShot II scramjet through RANS simulations
Experimental and flight data for hypersonic air-breathing vehicles are both difficult and extremely expensive to obtain, motivating the use of computational tools to enhance our understanding of the complex physics involved. One of the major difficulties in simulating this regime is the interaction between combustion and turbulence, both of which are intrinsically complex processes. This work r...

متن کاملReference Command Tracking for a Linearized Model of an Air-breathing Hypersonic Vehicle
The focus of this paper is on control design and simulation for an air-breathing hypersonic vehicle. The challenges for control design in this class of vehicles lie in the inherent coupling between the propulsion system, and the airframe dynamics, and the presence of strong flexibility effects. Working from a highly nonlinear, dynamically-coupled simulation model, control designs are presented ...

متن کاملFuzzy Reliable Tracking Control for Flexible Air-breathing Hypersonic Vehicles
In this paper, we present a fuzzy reliable tracking control design method for flexible air-breathing hypersonic vehicles (FAHVs) subject to disturbances and possible sensor/actuator failures. This problem is challenging due to the strong coupling effects, variable operating conditions and possible failures in FAHVs. First, Takagi-Sugeno (T-S) fuzzy model is used to represent the longitudinal dy...
